IELTS - International English Language Testing System

What is it?

It is an English language proficiency test, as well as the entrance examination required by all UK educational institutions and the vast majority of institutions in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United States, also elected by the immigration departments of these locations as an indispensable requirement in their immigration visas.

IELTS is a joint property of the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge Assessment English and is applied in more than 140 countries today.

How's the proof?

IELTS is offered in three different versions:

1 – Academic
The Academic version of the exam is generally recommended for applicants who wish to study at foreign institutions at undergraduate or graduate levels and this version tests the formal language required for academic purposes.

2 – General Training
The General Training version is usually required for applicants who are in the process of an immigration or work visa.

3 – UKVI or Life Skills
If you need to obtain a visa to move or study in the UK, IELTS is part of the list of approved and reliable English language exams and you should look for authorized IELTS for UKVI and IELTS Life Skills. You can find more information on the IELTS for visas and immigration to the UK.

Structure of the Proof

The IELTS covers the four communication skills present in the professional and academic life situations of the candidates:

  • Listening (oral interpretation): 30 minutes + 10 minutes for the transfer of the answers (without the use of headphones);
  • Reading (written interpretation): 60 minutes, no additional time to transfer responses;
  • Writing (writing): 60 minutes;
  • Speaking (conversation): 11-14 minutes.

Specific considerations for each step:

  • Written Part: includes the Listening, Writing and Reading skills and will be conducted on the official date, chosen by you, at 1:00 p.m., lasting from 3 hours to 3:30 hours; it is necessary to arrive with 40 minutes of advance and in this step, you will realize the proof along with the other candidates.
  • Speaking interview: scheduled directly by the British Council, and may occur up to 1 week before the official date, although it is usually scheduled 1 to 2 days before; your interview may fall on business days, during business hours and at an address other than the official address, and lasts 15 to 20 minutes. You will perform this step individually with one of our examiners. For tests in the city of Brasília, the oral interview can also be scheduled within 2 days after the official exam date.

If you are traveling from city or state to take the test, your oral interview will preferably be scheduled for the same day of the written test or for as close as possible (usually 1 to 2 days before).

Punctuation

IELTS does not approve or disapprove. The test ranged from 1 to 9 on each of the 4 skills and also provided a general average, ranking each candidate from “non-language user” to “fully proficient”.

IELTS provides an accurate assessment of the level of proficiency of your candidates, making it possible to identify strengths and weaknesses of each candidate. For Life Skills, the candidate will not receive grades 1 through 9, but rather one of two options: pass or fail (approved or not approved).
